When the championship was one division of 18 counties, Leicestershire won it in 1996 and again in 1998. changing it to how it is now was done to make sure the " big " counties boss it. A la "big 6" in the Premier League

    Paul Snart, Leicester

Interesting point, Paul. Since the introduction of two divisions in 2000, only two non-Test hosting counties have won the Championship. Sussex did it in 2003, 2006 and 2007 and Essex in 2017 and 2019.

    Price b Allison 77 (Glos 292-4 v Worcs - lead by 175)

Just after Ollie Price and James Bracey had struck up their century partnership and Price is on his way back to the dressing room.

A fine delivery from Ben Allison - his first wicket of this innings after 5-19 in the first - beats the bat and makes a mockery of leg-stump.

    Gohar lbw b Quinn 1 (Middx 210-7 v Kent - target 356)

All going one way now at Northwood.

Zafar Gohar is stuck on the crease facing Matt Quinn and is given out lbw.

He doesn't seem thrilled with the decision - presumably he felt it might be going over the top.

  6. Umpire says Nopublished at 11:41 BST

    Leics v Glam 145-6 - target 257

Loudest lbw appeal of the day so far from Ian Holland against his opposite captain Kiran Carlson.

It's given not out probably on height.

The umpires have given just five lbws out of 36 wickets in this match.

  7. Postpublished at 11:40 BST

    Somerset v Essex 342-4 - lead 31

It's a different mindset we are seeing from Charlie Allison this morning.

He has added just nine runs to his overnight 105 in the first 40 minutes of play and is permitting himself no liberties against Jack Leach.

He has practised the reverse sweep at the non-striker's end but hasn't attempted to use it thus far.

  8. Postpublished at 11:37 BST

    Glos 286-3 v Worcs - lead by 169

Probably some of the most positive batting of the whole match at Cheltenham against the new ball.

James Bracey is now on 69 and Ollie Price has 77.

The lead is 169, and it's starting to look like Worcestershire may need a declaration to set up a chance of winning.

  9. Carlson the key for Glamorganpublished at 11:35 BST

    Leics v Glam 141-6 - target 257

Kiran Carlson continues to play a captain's innings for Glamorgan.

Another single takes him to 80. He's been well supported by Chris Cooke who has survived 38 balls so far and has done well to keep out a couple that have kept low.

Still a long way for Glamorgan to go, another 116 needed.

    Du Plooy b Milnes 40 (Middx 209-6 v Kent - target 356)

    Matt MilnesImage source, Getty Images

Matt Milnes fires down a yorker to Leus du Plooy, who brings the bat down a fraction late and loses his off- stump via a slight deflection.

That's the one Kent wanted and Adam Hollioake's second-placed side are now just four wickets away from their fifth win of the season.

  11. Postpublished at 11:29 BST

    Hants 119-4 v Yorks - Target 278

Toby Albert looks a key wicket for Yorks as Hants attempt to scratch and chase another 160 runs to win this match.

He has been in decent nick in the Metro Bank One Day Cup with his last five innings yielding an almost palindromic 0, 89, 46, 86, 0.

He is already up to 44 here and doubling that would seem essential with someone else chipping in a half- century, too.

This game remains what is generally described as 'finely poised'.

  12. Postpublished at 11:29 BST

    Middx 209-5 v Kent - target 356

Good ball from Matt Milnes, which takes the shoulder of Joe Cracknell's bat but it flies wide of the slips and rolls away across the parched outfield for four.

  13. Leicestershire appealingpublished at 11:28 BST

    Leics v Glam 138-6 - target 257

Ajaz Patel and Ian Holland each have an LBW appeal turned down.

There's likely to be plenty of asking from the bowlers as they seek the final four wickets needed.

The home team remain frustrated that Kiran Carlson is still there as they were convinced he gloved one behind just before the close yesterday.

Free entry at Hampshire. Kids playing cricket on the concourse, Dad watching the game and shouting for anything exciting. Kids not yet convinced by Test cricket but well invested in The Hundred and now playing for their local team, Yateley CC. Excellent way to spend a Sunday.

    Critchley c Abell b Leach 94 (Somerset v Essex 339-4 - lead by 28)

    Jack LeachImage source, Getty Images

    Classic left-arm spinner's dismissal.

Matt Critchley pushes forward but Jack Leach finds enough spin to take the edge and that's a comfortable catch for Tom Abell at second slip.

Frustration for Critchley, who batted with great maturity in his 236-ball innings as he helped Charlie Allison add 212 for the fourth wicket.

Noah Thain is the new Essex batter.

  16. Postpublished at 11:19 BST

    Middx 200-5 v Kent - target 356

Joe Cracknell drives Matt Milnes past mid-off for four and then dabs a single to take Middlesex's total up to 200.

A positive start by Cracknell but you feel it will be Leus du Plooy who will be the key batter if the home side are to chase down this target.

  17. Postpublished at 11:19 BST

    Leics v Glamorgan 135-6 - target 257

No boundaries yet this morning for Glamorgan but Kiran Carlson runs a three with the help of a mis-field from Josh Hull.

122 more required for Glamorgan. Four more wickets needed by Leicestershire.

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 11:17 BST

    Prest c Revis b Bess 16 (Hants 114-4 - target 278)

Tom Prest might want to have a think about that so early in the chase.

We are all for positivity but dancing down the wicket so early to Dom Bess might not have been the right thing to do, particularly as he plants it straight to Matthew Revis at long-on.

    Just the breakthrough Yorks needed.

  19. Postpublished at 11:14 BST

    Lancs 137 & 34-2 v Northants 284 & 298-4d

Brisk start from the hosts who have added 10 in the first two overs.

Josh Bohannon (6) punched Liam Guthrie to the point boundary for the opening four of the morning then Tom Bailey with a two and a three off Ben Sanderson.

It is fair to say they have some way to go with 412 still needed!
