Jersey captain Charles Perchard says his side are embracing their tag as favourites to win their 2028 T20 World Cup qualifying tournament.

The island side have beaten Switzerland and hosts Cyprus in their opening two games of Europe Sub Regional Qualifier A.

Jersey hope to return to the final round of European qualifying for the T20 World Cup next year.

They missed out on a place at this year's T20 World Cup on net run-rate having beaten Scotland and narrowly losing to hosts the Netherlands in last summer's final round of European qualifying.

"I think Cyprus came in and sort of brought their 'A' game against us," Perchard told BBC Radio jersey after his side's 52-run win on Sunday.

"We expect that a lot of the sides are going to step up and really fancy the challenge of beating a big scalp like Jersey.

"So we can't take anybody for granted. We need to make sure that we turn up every day that we've got a game."

Jersey are top of their five-team group at the midway point of the pool stage on net run-rate, ahead of France who have also won their opening two games.

Only the group winners will have a chance of qualification - they will go into a play-off against the winners of the other five-team group at the tournament.

It means Tuesday's game with France will be key to Jersey's success.

"France are a very dangerous side, I think maybe the second-strongest side in this group," added Perchard.

"So we can't slip up - we need to ensure that we're well-focused for that one.

"You do have to win every game to get out this group with 10 teams in it and only one side qualifying.

"This game against France is going to be do-or-die for us, and if we don't win that I think our chance of qualification will be slim."
