Jersey thrashed Switzerland by nine wickets as they got their 2028 T20 World Cup qualifying campaign off to the perfect start.

The islanders - who are aiming to return to the final round of European qualifying next year - cruised to victory in Cyprus.

Julius Sumerauer took 4-21 as Jersey bowled out the Swiss for 73 in 16.5 overs in their opening Europe Sub Regional Qualifier A match.

Ben Ward added figures of 3-10 as only two Swiss batters made double figures.

Jersey needed just 7.1 overs to reach their target at the Happy Valley Ground.

Opener Harrison Carlyon was caught for four midway through the opening over.

But Patrick Gouge and Nick Greenwood guided Jersey home in Neil MacRae's first game back in charge of the island side.

Wellington all-rounder Greenwood hit two sixes as he scored 34 off 21 balls while wicketkeeper Gouge made 33 from 19 balls as Jersey coasted to victory at 75-1.

Jersey face hosts Cyprus on Sunday before matches with France and Croatia in their pool.

Should they top their group they will meet the winners of the other five-team pool in the final, with the winners booking a place in the next stage.
