Somerset have signed South African batter Jordan Hermann for the next three County Championship matches.

The 24-year-old comes in with Tom Kohler-Cadmore sidelined with a fractured thumb, Lewis Goldworthy picking up a hamstring injury and Tom Banton yet to play this season because of a finger injury.

Hermann will be available to play in the upcoming fixture against Sussex and the matches against Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire in mid-June.

"We have suffered a number of injuries to key batters in the last month, so we felt that this was the perfect opportunity to strengthen the batting line up, and Jordan will certainly help to strengthen our options in that department," said director of cricket Andy Hurry.

Hermann has scored more than 3,000 runs in 40 first-class matches at an average of 45.22, and made his international debut in March in a T20 victory against New Zealand.

Playing alongside his older brother Ruben, he was not called upon to bat in the tour opener at Mount Maunganui and injury ruled him out of the remainder of the series.

Last week Hermann was also named in a South Africa A squad, external that will face England Lions in two four-day games at Arundel and Beckenham, starting 22 and 29 May, but he does not feature in the line-up for three one-day matches that follow.

Somerset are currently taking on Glamorgan as they look for their third County Championship win in four matches.
