England's Tolchard & women's pair claim gold in bowls

Sam Tolchard and the women's pair team of Amy Pharaoh and Sian Honnor have won England's first bowls gold medals at the Commonwealth Games.

Tolchard took a resounding 8-0 win over Malaysia's Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple in the first set and quelled a gutsy comeback from his opponent in the second to win 8-6 after being 6-3 down.

It marks a first gold for the five-time Commonwealth Games athlete, who now completes his collection having previously taken three bronzes and a silver across pairs and fours events in the past three Games.

Pharaoh and Honnor had a harder battle in their gold medal event, also against Malaysian opponents.

The English pair took a slender 5-4 lead to win the first set and held on for a 5-5 draw in the second to take a 1.5-0.5 win.

"That will take a little while to sink in, the adrenaline is still absolutely pumping," Honnor told BBC Sport.

"I personally was just very pleased I didn't have to bowl any more bowls."
