Jones ready to represent England in 100m

It has been a long journey for England sprinter Elliot Jones to make his Commonwealth Games debut, but finally he will be able to take centre stage in Tuesday's 100m finals.

The 28-year-old is the only England athlete competing in the men's final and earned his place after Louie Hinchcliffe pulled out, one of 11 withdrawals in the athletics for Team England including Dina Asher-Smith and Daryll Neita.

Jones isn't just there to make up the numbers though, winning the final heat to progress through to the finals with the third quickest time of 10.07 seconds.

He'll be hoping to make his way on to the podium as he looks to put his name in the mix for the upcoming 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles following a testing career so far.

Having been ruled out of running for a full year with an Achilles injury and having hip surgery, the sprinter feels his injury struggles have built his resilience to become a better athlete.

"Although [setbacks are] incredibly frustrating, that maturity, and what I learned during that period, has enabled me to become the athlete that I am today," Jones told BBC Bitesize.

Jones will be in action in Tuesday's men's 100m final at approximately 21:14 BST.
