Wales make history with 3x3 wheelchair basketball win

Team Wales experienced its first 3x3 wheelchair basketball action in the Commonwealth Games today as the women's team of Anastasia Blease, Chloe Morgan, Libi Phillips, Molly Lander beat India 16-1 in Glasgow.

Captain Blease led the way with seven points, while Lander scored five and Phillips added four.

"That was incredible," said Blease. "What an amazing feeling.

"I didn't think I would hear the crowd. I thought I would tune them out but they were right there.

"It was special to get out on the court and create history, but to also get a win was amazing."

Wales play two further group games against Nigeria and Scotland.

The men's team of Alex Wilson, Ben Johnson-Rolfe, Dan May, Will Bishop are in action against Malaysia later on, followed by group games against South Africa and Scotland on Monday.

After narrowly missing out on Birmingham four years ago, Wales' men and women were making Commonwealth Games debuts in Glasgow.

The teams received wildcards after finishing second in their respective qualifying finals.

Wheelchair 3x3 basketball is a 10-minute game with no quarters or halves.

Each team is made up of three players with one substitute. Unlike basketball rules, the shot clock runs for 12 seconds instead of 24 and the game is played in a half-court with just one hoop.

The first team to score 21 points wins. If no team has reached 21 points after 10 minutes, the team leading wins. In the event of a tie, the first team to score two points in an overtime period wins.
