
Ethiopia: Curfew imposed due to violent clashes
The Ethiopian government has imposed a night curfew in Gambella city, west of the country, after violent clashes.
The Ethiopian government has imposed a night curfew in Gambella city, west of the country as part of efforts to “control illegal activities”. The city was last month a scene of violent confrontations between government and armed groups including the Oromo Liberation Army and the Gambella Liberation Front.
Still on Ethiopia, the United Nations' World Food Programme has announced that its delivered essential food aid to millions in Ethiopia's Tigray, Afar, and Amhara regions. The conflict between federal troops and TPLF forces has claimed thousands of lives and destroyed much of Tigray's infrastructure.
Plus, the President of France has said he wants to rethink his country's military posture in Africa. Emmanuel Macron made the comments in an address to French troops ahead of the Bastille Day parade in Paris.
Also on the program, we look at the recent reconciliatory meeting held between the Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara and his predecessors Laurent Gbagbo and Henri Konan Bedie. According to a press statement, the three men, who had not been reunited since the post-election crisis of 2010-2011, held a meeting on Thursday to “renew contact and exchange truth on major national issues” .
