Maasai clash with police in Tanzania

Tensions had been mounting for some time between the Maasai and Tanzanian authorities over land rights and access.

In Tanzania, growing tensions have led to clashes between police and the Masaai communities in the Loliondo district. In a move viewed as controversial by rights groups, the Tanzanian government had announced its plans to begin the relocation of Masaai families from the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to new villages, hundreds of miles away.

Key healthcare facility in Cameroon burned down in one of several attacks in the southwest region of the country, with the authorities blaming separatist fighters. However, Ambazonia separatists who are very active in the area deny involvement.

Also in Durban South Africa, a large group of people who were displaced after the floods in April hit Kwa Zulu Natal province – have invaded the City Hall and demanded proper housing.
