Tunisians demonstrate against President Saied

Tunisians have been demonstrating against President Kais Saied, and commemorating the 11th anniversary of the overthrow of President Ben Ali.

Police in Tunisia’s capital Tunis have used water cannon and tear gas against hundreds of people demonstrating against President Kais Saied. It’s after he suspended the constitution, in a move which critics decried as anti-democratic. The protest also commemorated the 11th anniversary of the overthrow of President Ben Ali in 2011, which marked the start of the Arab Spring uprisings.

Plus, Malians who support the country’s ruling military junta in its dispute with regional bloc ECOWAS have been rallying in the capital Bamako, to show their support for the suspension of elections.

And a resident of Mekelle, capital of Ethiopia’s Tigray region, tells Focus on Africa about daily life there. The region has been devastated by the conflict between the federal government and TPLF rebels.
