Nigeria: Police say 13 officers were killed in an ambush

The officers were ambushed by suspected armed gangs in Zamfara

In Nigeria authorities say 13 policemen were killed in an ambush by suspected armed gangs in the north-western state of Zamfara over the weekend. The incident happened as the officers responded to distress calls from villagers in the Bungudu local government area of the state.

In Ethiopia’s Tigray region there are signs of violence spreading to other areas with fighting now reported in neighbouring Afar state. Afar state sits directly east of Tigray - in north-eastern Ethiopia.
