Somalia: Government and regional leaders agree to elections

Somalia's political leaders have agreed a way forward to choose a new president after months of delay and an eruption of violence in the capital, Mogadishu.

The prime minister, Mohamed Hussein Roble, and the presidents of the regional states signed a deal to start the process within 60 days.

The French President Emmanuel Macron said France recognised its “responsibility” in the 1994 Rwandan genocide and asked for forgiveness for his country’s role. The comments came during a speech at the Kigali Genocide Memorial, where 250,000 victims of the mass killings are buried.
