St Mary’s Birth Centre to close

Maternity services at a birthing centre in Melton are being relocated to Melton hospital.

The relocation of antenatal and postnatal clinics from St Mary's Birth Centre to Melton Hospital began on the 28th September, following a decision in March to close the centre for good.

Staff at St Mary's said the dates and times of any booked appointments would remain the same but would be held at Melton Hospital.

University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust says there'll be no change to the services on offer, with the new location just a short walk away on the same site. Patients will be signposted to the clinics and can contact the maternity team with any questions.

BBC Leicester’s Ben Jackson spoke to Edward Argar, the Conservative MP for Melton and Syston, and also to Helen Cliff, part of a campaign group called “Maternity Voices”. First though he spoke to Anna Foster from the 'Save St Mary's Birth Centre' campaign.
