Should Essex have its own tramway?

Currently, there are just two routes on and off Canvey which regularly cause delays and tailbacks not only for the island, but the surrounding Essex towns.

However, new proposals for a tramway system between Canvey, Benfleet and Thurrock could be more effective than a road bridge, according to the Thames Gateway Tramlink project.
