It Starts with You – Hereditary Cancer Campaign
In 2004, BBC Radio Derby's breakfast show presenter, Becky Measures, found out she carried the BRCA1 gene mutation, meaning she had a significantly increased risk of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer. Two years later, at just 24 years old, she made one of the biggest decisions of her life – to undergo a preventative double mastectomy. She was the youngest woman at the time in UK to have the operation.
Now, 20 years later, BBC Radio Derby is launching 'It Starts With You'. A campaign aimed at getting people to have conversations about their family history and be aware of their hereditary cancer risk.

The Colin Bloomfield Sun Safe Campaign
To mark ten years since our presenter Colin Bloomfield died from melanoma skin cancer, we're trying to make Derbyshire and East Staffordshire some of the most sun safe places in the country.
We're continuing Colin’s legacy of educating people young and old to stay safe in the sun. We're doing this by helping to make schools Sun Safe and teaching people about how to check their skin.
