The Arctic pack ice

- Who
- A team of professionals including expert divers, polar survival guides, scientists and specialist film crew. The team is fronted by Oceans expedition leader and presenter Paul Rose.
- What
- They are filming a scientific dive where they are capturing a snap shot of what life exists under the moving ice.
- Where
- The team are on the frozen pack ice over 2000km north of Oslo. The pack ice is drifting at about 12km per day in a south-westerly direction. It is a hazardous wilderness where polar bears roam.
- When
- During the Arctic summertime when there is constant daylight and the summer melt is beginning. The crew are now able to get through the ice and sail further north to capture this rare snap shot of life under the pack ice.
- How
- The captain and boat crew have manoeuvred the 60m long Arctic research vessel, RV Lance, through drifting pack ice for several miles so that the Oceans team can dive underneath it.
- Why
- They are filming the story of the Arctic, where changes related to climate change are most pronounced. The team are collecting samples of the life that exists under the ice. They'll be able to use the results of their findings to determine what life is under threat and how that might affect the local food chain.
