Magic roundabout makeover

BBC Radio Nottingham's Andy Whittaker's worked his magic on the county's 'ugliest roundabout'.

The traffic island is at the busy junction of Low Wood Road and Sellers Wood Drive and it was nominated on Andy's breakfast show recently.

People contacted the show to say how much an area is improved when a traffic island looks nice and how a poorly maintained roundabout can bring an area down.

Roundabouts all over Nottinghamshire were discussed and there was a general feeling that if a particularly bad one could be found, something should be done about it.

The Bulwell island was nominated by Tony Summers who lives nearby.

Andy decided to have a go at sorting it out - with the help of BBC Radio Nottingham's gardeners, John Stirland and Martin Fish.

He managed to drum up volunteers, plants, compost and bark on his show.

Between 6.00am and 12.00pm on Thursday 9 August the roundabout was transformed.
