Kendal Torchlight parade travels through the streets of the town during September
The future of a Cumbrian festival has been secured after councillors agreed to a £10,000 funding package.
Last month Kendal's Torchlight Carnival was scrapped for the first time in 42 years when organisers were unable to attract enough funding or volunteers.
The carnival, which usually takes place in September, attracts up to 30,000 visitors and needs about 120 marshals.
Kendal Town Council has now agreed to donate £10,000, which will ensure the carnival can take place in 2013.
Kendal Town councillor Clare Feeney-Johnson said: "We wanted to show our support and make sure we could have the festival next year.
"It would have been 42 years this year and it's a really good opportunity for the town to come together.
"I'm really hopeful now that with the funding in place we can get people coming forward and helping not just this year, but for future years."
