    Hillsborough victim, 16-year-old Kester Ball, who lived in St Albans, and had gone to the game with his father, Roger and two of his friends. His father survived, having been pulled out unconscious.

    Two schools in Hertfordshire have been shortlisted for an award recognising work to improve opportunities for disadvantaged pupils.

    St Albans Girls School and Camp Primary and Nursery School in St Albans have been named as finalists in the Pupil Premium Awards, external. The scheme gives schools additional money to help nurture the attainment of disadvantaged students.

    Sam Gyimah, the Minister for Childcare and Education, says they know this is working and that the "attainment gap... has narrowed at both primary and secondary level" but they want "more schools to follow the example set by these finalists".

    Officers searching for a children's author say there is nothing to indicate "foul play" in connection with her disappearance.

    Helen Bailey, who wrote the Electra Brown series, was last seen walking her dog near her home in Royston, Hertfordshire on 11 April with the 51-year-old saying she "needed a little time to herself" before going missing.

    The force has investigated several possible sightings, but have not been able to locate the Northumberland-born writer.

    Police are asking the public to check outbuildings on farmland and sheds to make sure she hasn't gone off the beaten track and that nothing has been missed.

    Shop workers at a bookmakers in Kempston have been left shaken after a man armed with a handgun demanded money from the tills.

    Police say a man walked into Betfred in the Saxon Centre armed with a small handgun and demanded money. He made off with a small amount in a bag and no-one was hurt.

    The offender is described as dark skinned, slim, around 5ft 10ins tall and between 19-25-years-old. He wore a baseball cap and hood, dark puffa-style jacket, black trousers, black gloves and dark shoes.

    A man has been arrested after an assault in Luton this afternoon which has left a man in hospital.

    Police were called to Park Street in the town centre at 12:25 to reports of an assault on a man near a bus stop.

    The man has been taken to hospital with injuries that aren't believed to be life-threatening. A scene guard remains in place for enquiries.

    A man has been arrested and charged after thousands of pounds were stolen from Bushey Hall Golf Club.

    Police officers stopped a man in Hounslow after the burglary last Thursday. He was arrested in connection with the incident.

    Offenders are alleged to have forced entry to the building in Bushey Hall Drive through a rear window, police say. They are asking to speak to anyone who saw a "15 plate silver Ford Eco Sport Zetrec" in the area.

    Suzanne Potts, Sweet Pea's owner, previously worked as occupational therapist for the NHS before deciding she wanted to use bunnies to provide therapy for adults, external, to promote physical movement, socialisation, sensory stimulation and more.

    You may have heard of therapy dogs before, but Ms Potts likes to use rabbits as they tend to be even more gentle. Listen to more of her interview on BBC Three Counties Radio here.

    Junior doctors in England are on strike today and tomorrow from 08:00 to 17:00. The NHS says it is working hard to ensure as few patients as possible are affected, but what does this mean for people who need these services?

    • To access urgent medical help: You can still call NHS 111, external, visit your GP or see an out-of-hours doctor at an urgent care centre or walk-in centre
    • Visiting a GP: GPs may experience greater demand than normal, so it is best to contact your GP early if you need advice or an appointment, according to the NHS Choices website, external
    • Pharmacies and dentists: The strikes do not include any of these healthcare professionals. Services should run as normal

    Junior doctors on strike outside Milton Keynes Hospital say they were hoping the action would be called off.

    One junior doctor, Raff, told me: "It's a bit sad actually, I think the majority of us would want to be inside looking after [patients], but unfortunately it's come to this and we have to be stuck out here."

    The doctors are protesting about the imposition of a new contract. Emergency care at hospitals will be covered by senior colleagues for nine hours today and tomorrow.

    Kester Ball, a schoolboy from St Albans, travelled to the game by car with his father, Roger Ball, and a friend, who both survived.

    In a full statement to the original inquests, his mother Brenda Ball said he was hard-working at school and "one of the best middle-distance runners" at Parmiter School in Garston.

    His headmaster said he was "one of the most popular, respected and influential members of his year group" and "an outstanding pupil". The sixth form building, constructed in 2013/14, was named Kester Ball House in his memory.

    Roger, Kester's father, passed his love of Liverpool FC on to Kester, who was then given a season ticket for his birthday. Read more here.

    The teenager died from compression asphyxia 15.04 to 16.33. That's different to the original inquest which ruled he died at 15:15.

    Ninety-six football fans, including a 16-year-old St Albans school boy, who died as a result of a crush in the 1989 Hillsborough disaster were unlawfully killed, inquests into the incident have concluded.

    The jury decided match commander Ch Supt David Duckenfield's actions amounted to "gross negligence" due to a breach of his duty of care to fans. Police errors also added to a dangerous situation at the FA Cup semi-final.

    Kester Ball, 16, travelled to the football match with his father Roger and two best friends, who survived the incident. After a 27-year campaign by victims' families, the behaviour of Liverpool fans was exonerated.

    It's been revealed prisoners on a rehabilitation scheme are being taught how to tunnel. The admission came from Justice Minister, and South West Bedfordshire MP, Andrew Selous, who was speaking in the Commons.

    The Conservative told MPs inmates trained in construction work showed lower levels of re-offending and he went on to outline some of the skills they were learning:

    "We now have two Land Securities, external construction academies comprising dry-lining, scaffolding and tunnelling, and I'm assured Mr Speaker that those last two activities have been risk assessed," Mr Selous said.
