A couple who first met at Glastonbury have managed to secure tickets and will be returning to Worthy Farm for their 20th wedding anniversary.

Nick and Helen met through mutual friends at the festival in 2007 and first kissed while watching Kasabian at a "very muddy" Other Stage.

They will be returning to the festival with the same mutual friends they enjoyed the festival with 20 years ago.

Nick tells me the pair are "absolutely delighted" to be going back.

"I was surprised when the bars were going up," he says, explaining that he managed to get tickets after a 30-minute wait.

The couple from Amersham last went to Glastonbury in 2011, but try and get tickets every year while embracing the "queuing malarkey".

They beat the queue in 2019 but had to give their tickets back a month before their festival as they were adopting their daughter.

We've heard from one lucky buyer who says he "zipped through" at around 09:15 on a poor connection at a vintage fair.

Nigel says he and his wife connected from one mobile.

"Poor signal, entered queue. My phone stayed on two bars, wife’s phone zipped through and two tickets bagged by 9:15," he tells us. "Result, never been before and first time ever trying."

In 1970, farmer Michael Eavis decided to host a music festival at Worthy Farm.

In an interview at the time, the Somerset dairy farmer described his motivation for putting the Pilton Pop, Blues and Folk Festival together - as well as the hurdles he faced.

Fifty-six years on, Glastonbury has become part of the national furniture.

What was Eavis most worried about? "How many people I'm going to get here," he says - watch the interview below.

Earlier we had some advice from Paul Farrugia, who has a 100% track record for securing Glastonbury tickets.

He sent me a celebratory text: "Got them!"

The 11-time Glastonbury veteran will be heading to Worthy Farm for the 12th time in a row next year - but he tells me that he has had to try for resale tickets on occasion.

Farrugia had the Glastonbury ticket page open over an hour before tickets went on sale under the watchful eye of a painting of the Pyramid stage.

For one Glastonbury hopeful, missing out on tickets has become an annual tradition.

Mat Chapman has been trying to get tickets to Glastonbury for himself and his daughter for 20 years, but has never got beyond the virtual queue.

Mat used to watch the festival with his daughter Amy when she was little and promised to take her to Glastonbury when she was five years old as "she always wanted to have her own flag that you could see on the telly".

Today is Amy's 26th birthday, but there is not a present from Glastonbury this year.

"It's gutting when you see these people year in year out who are able to get there," Mat tells me. "It feels unlucky, but that's the way it goes".

Mat logged on in Aberystwyth at 08:20 BST, 40 minutes before tickets went live.

But he only ever moved from "two bar hell to three bar purgatory".

He says: "There's always next year. We'll fly the flag there one day."

"Such a shame they’ve sold out now," writes Marty Johnston. "But honestly, trying to get tickets this year when pregnant wasn’t ideal."

While the festival says they've made the buying process more fair, "I don’t know a single person personally" that got through, she adds.

"But I will definitely be organising a glasto BBQ or party over that weekend, really well done to anyone who got tickets! I hope you have the best time, it’s incredible."

If you didn't manage to get past the dreaded two green bars, don't lose faith.

There are still several opportunities to go to the festival and some tickets will be resold in April.

You could try working at the festival as a food trader, or selling weird and wonderful items at a stall. There are around 800 traders offering food and goods at Worthy Farm. (You have to apply by 1 November - more info on that is over here, external.)

There are also hundreds of charities at the festival and thousands of volunteers attend each year to help out with organisations like WaterAid, Oxfam and Greenpeace UK. Volunteers handle tasks like stewarding, managing toilets, or looking after the campsite.

Otherwise, you can watch plenty of the action on TV or online from the comfort of your sofa - the BBC will be carrying it live.

And if none of those options are quite your style, you could always become a member of a famous rock band or a leading pop singer.

The festival confirmed just after 09:40 that tickets are gone.

"My dad will be 84 next year, and it will be 10 years since he and I went together to experience our first and only Glastonbury," says Katie Bailey-Counsell.

"My husband has never been, and neither has my son, who was born in 2025. I really want to go to Glastonbury and experience the festival with 3 generations of the same family."

"It really annoys me when people say they've been able to get tickets every year for 15, 20, 25, however many years... Let someone else experience the magic for the first time!"

An update from Cleo in the international group, who says only one of them is seeing significant movement.

"We’re currently resting all our hope on Rome", where one group member has made it half way. "My mum is on 5 bars, everyone else is stuck in 2/3," she says.

An update on the Glastonbury website says that half of Glastonbury tickets have now sold out.

But it has reassured visitors that "the queue for remaining tickets is moving steadily".

This year's Glastonbury tickets have breached the £400 mark for the first time.

Tickets for the Somerset festival have increased over the years, from £185 in 2010 to £408 for the upcoming 2027 line-up.

Most price rises have come since the pandemic, with tickets climbing from £318 in 2019 to a peak of £408 in 2027.

But unlike recent years, much of the 2010s saw relatively steady price hikes.

Glastonbury is not alone. Most major UK festivals have seen price increases in recent years.

The first Glastonbury Festival, back in 1970, was £1 - and that included a free pint of milk from the farm.

Adjusted for inflation with the Bank of England's calculator, that would cost £14.24 nowadays.

My group chats are alive with friends and acquaintances who are spending their Sunday mornings staring at an Excel spreadsheet.

Some 44 of us have split into nine groups to try and maximise our chances of going to Glastonbury the year many of us turn 30.

A special shout out to my best pal Holly who woke up at 03:30 from her holiday in New Haven to help.

All of us are seeing two bars on our screen at the moment. But we’re keeping the faith.

And while some say syndicates are a thing of the past, it’s still the most sociable - and exciting - way.

Mark Sennitt is one of the thousands of people in the Glastonbury queue but tells me that he is "currently in two bar hell".

"There must be a word - possibly in German - that describes the feeling of getting up on a Sunday morning with the hope of actually getting a Glasto ticket, only to realise by 09:25 that its not going to happen... and then to breezily crack on with your Sunday as if nothing has happened," he tells me.

Having just got back from holiday in Ibiza, Zoe Scott is already excited for next year's Glastonbury and feels confident she'll score tickets.

"There's a lot of rumours going around that it’s going to be even harder this year… but our friend Ben seems to be very lucky – he managed to get six tickets last year and we’re relying on him again," she says. (No pressure, Ben.)

Zoe's method involves connecting her new laptop to wi-fi and her mobile to 5G, allowing her to access the system from two separate IP addresses. She's also in a group of six friends on WhatsApp all trying their luck at the same time.

But if that fails, there’s always Glastonbury’s official resale pool in April, she says. "The prices are exactly the same but obviously there's just less of them."

Another option is buying hospitality tickets, as she did two years ago: "You need to know somebody that's working with the event – they're more expensive, but at least the campsite isn’t next to a stage."

Lastly, what does Zoe make of Glastonbury's price hike to £408 per ticket?

"It’s a privilege to be able to afford it, but I totally think it’s worth it – [that's] £100 average a day, you're getting to see thousands of acts, there's over 100 stages. As a comparison, Oasis tickets are currently £170 just for a couple of hours."

"It’s such a vibe at Glastonbury – everyone’s so happy and free-spirited. You're just on a constant high from friends, music and the sun is usually shining.

"You go there, switch off and just crack on for the next four days."

I've heard from Cleo, who is hoping that her group will win in this year's ticketing battle.

"Hoping the geographic spread of my ticket buying group helps - trying from London, Newcastle, Farnham, Rome and Japan," she tells me.

She's gone to the festival more than 10 times. The first time, in 2009, her mum called up and purchased resale tickets over the phone.

How times have changed.

The virtual gates have opened and tickets are now live for Glastonbury 2027.

Thousands across the UK and the globe are staring at loading screens in the hope of going to Worthy Farm.

One ticket hopeful has pointed out that there has been a tweak to the queuing system since coach tickets were sold out on Thursday.

Paul Clement points out that people are now required to put their registration number and postcode before entering the virtual waiting room.

The first batch of tickets sold out in less than half an hour on Thursday, with thousands left staring at the dreaded two green bars.

Duncan Smith is one of the thousands of people hoping to secure tickets for Glastonbury 2027.

The 43-year-old from Devon is trying to secure tickets for his wife and four friends.

"Last year we were lucky, one of the group logged in late and got straight through to purchase," he says.

"Being on at 9am like everyone else didn't work, being yards won us our prize. Hoping today is just as lucky."
