Beverley Art Gallery, which is run by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, is welcoming the Lincolnshire Artists’ Society for the first time this Spring, when members of the Society will be exhibiting their work from 2 May to 13 June. The exhibition will be opened by John G Bernasconi, the Director of Fine Art at the University of Hull. The curator of the Beverley Art Gallery, Sally Hayes, said: "For many years Beverley Art Gallery has had a strong commitment to showing the work of regional and local art groups. These shows are always very popular with visitors and we are sure Lincolnshire Artists’ will be no exception." ![]() Edge of the Forest Frank Marston, Chairman of the Society, commented: "It is a great privilege for the Society to be invited to stage an exhibition of the work of its members at Beverley. I am also very pleased that we have the opportunity to show the work of our talented Lincolnshire artists in a different environment and in a different county. This is a trend we hope to continue." The Lincolnshire Artists' Society is 103 years old and started life as the Lincoln Drawing Club. The Society aims to promote among its members high standards of achievement in drawing, painting, sculpture, crafts, architecture and allied visual arts. It holds regular exhibitions showcasing the work of members as well as lectures and workshops. Early in 2008 the Society held a very successful exhibition at The Usher Gallery in Lincoln and, in autumn, the Society broke new ground when members’ work was exhibited at the nationally renowned Patchings Arts Centre near Calverton in Nottinghamshire for the first time. The Society has traditionally exhibited not only at The Usher, but also at other galleries within Lincolnshire, but is now venturing further afield in order to bring the creative talent of Lincolnshire artists to a wider audience.
