Apprentice contestant Sara Dhada

Second Leicester Apprentice Fired

For seven weeks there were two people from Leicester competing in the television series The Apprentice, but by week eight there were none! Sara Dhada was fired by Sir Alan Sugar after failing at a wedding show task.

In The Apprentice 2008 Leicester had two candidates - Jenny Celerier and Sara Dhada.

Jenny was fired in Week 7 after her morals were called into question during a task in a souk, and the following week Sara was fired after failing to sell a single cake at a wedding show.

Listen: Interview with Sara Dhada

BBC Leicester's Martin Ballard spoke to Sara Dhada and BBC Leicester's Hasan Patel went to visit Sara's father, Majid Dhada, at his home in Oadby...

Sara says that she's relieved to be out of The Apprentice, but she thinks she's let people in Leicester down:

"I do feel I've disappointed everybody in Leicester, I really wanted to go far and I did try my best."

Sara says that she doesn't feel she made many friends in The Apprentice house, but she did get on well with Lucinda and Raef.

"I decided I've got to push these few people that are left at this mall to buy a cake, and maybe that was wrong but I did not know what else to do."

"Incredibly intense"

She enjoyed the tasks, but the friction with the other contestants was very stressful:

"It was incredibly intense. If I knew how it was going to be I probably would never have applied."

Sara was fired in Week 8 when her team lost the competition to make the most money at a wedding show at the NEC in Birmingham.

Sir Alan Sugar criticised her intense selling technique, but Sara says she was desperate to help her team win:

"I could have easily just kept smiley smiley, could have gone with the softly softly approach and floated around in a wedding dress, but I decided early on that I don't want to spend two hours getting ready and putting myself in a wedding dress.

"It's about 4 o'clock, people are packing up their bags and they're going away from the NEC, we've got very tacky wedding dresses which are mid-range value, we'll have to sell an awful lot to get a good turnover.

"So I decided I've got to push these few people that are left at this mall to buy a cake, and maybe that was wrong but I did not know what else to do."

"I need to stand up for myself"

Sara says that Sir Alan's parting comments hurt her, but she has learnt from going on the programme:

"I did not enjoy the experience at all, however I don't regret it and yes I did learn a few lessons.

"That is I need to stand up for myself and I need to defend myself a bit more."

"She will prove herself"

Sara's father, Majid, is a successful businessman himself and he says he's very proud of his daughter.

He thinks she has a bright future:

"She is independent and she will do what she wants. I think there is a lot ahead of her, she will prove herself and she's always proved herself and done what she wants and achieved what she wants...

"Of course I am proud of her, not only because of The Apprentice, I've always been proud of her and she's been very good."
