sports field
A pitch is an area of ground where certain sports are played, such as football or baseball.
- The crowd cheered when the players ran onto the pitch.
- The football pitch was covered in mud after all the rain.
present a business idea or proposal
If you pitch an idea or proposal, you present it to someone, often in the hope that they will support it or invest in it. 'Pitch' can also be a noun, meaning the presentation itself.
- She pitched her business idea to the investors. Her pitch impressed them.
- I've got five minutes to pitch my idea to the manager, so I need to make it convincing.
how high or low a sound is
Pitch describes how high or low a musical note or sound is. A high-pitched sound is high, while a low-pitched sound is low.
- Young children's voices have a higher pitch than adults' voices.
- The singer struggled to reach the higher pitches in the final part of the song.
set up a tent / place for a tent
If you pitch a tent, you put it up so that you can use it. As a noun, 'pitch' can be used to refer to the place where you put your tent.
- We pitched our tent in the shade. Our pitch is just over there.
- We found a lovely pitch for our tent next to the river.
