I served in North Africa, Italy and germany from 1940 until 1946. whilst I was away I received word that the germans had bombed the Sunshine Home for Blind Babies in Southport. Fortunately no babies were killed but many were injured along with my wife and several other workers at the home. My wife died of her injuries in 1948 after years of agonising pain.
Nowadays we are told we must forgive the Germans and live as friends but I find it difficult to treat people who wage war on blind babies as friends.
