Shebeen's new album

Paul O'Neill meets the Walney folk group as they release their new album '12 Mile Island'.

Jonathan Byrne, Robbie Byrne and Graham Parker.

It's 12 miles long, so it may come as no surprise to hear that a new album called '12 Mile Island' is about Walney.

It's been produced by a folk group by the name of Shebeen - all residents of the Island. Their album will be officially launched at the Biggar Village Folk Festival which is coming up on May the 26th.

Robbie Byrne, Graham Parker and Jonathan Byrne are all members of Shebeen, and Paul O'Neill joined them as they were setting up for a performance to hear their music and find out more about the group.

Graham Parker begins our look at Shebeen:

Shebeen are Robbie and Jonathan Byrne (father and son) plus Graham Parker. Founding member Robbie plays the Uilleann Pipes and penny-whistles, while Jonathan and Graham both take care of the guitars and vocals.

All music in the audio file is from Shebeen's album '12 Mile Island' published by Gateway Records, Biggar Village, Walney island, Cumbria.

The tracks are:
A Sailor Courted (traditional)
Eileen's Jig (traditional)
Touch the Sky (Jonathan Byrne)
Rhythm of the Sea (Robbie Byrne)
Dancing on Air (Robbie Byrne)
