Voices - The Launch

Today saw the launch of a major BBC project called "Voices". It's happening right across the UK.

Monday 7 April 2003 saw Cumbria's project get underway with a live broadcast from Walney Island, where the BBC Voices team will be based for the next three months.

The Voices project gives us, the BBC, a chance to concentrate on a particular area in an attempt to give a relatively small area the sort of media coverage that it's never had before. We're also getting involved in a number of local schemes to help make life a bit better for local residents.

The main project we're helping with is a plan to build a sensory garden at Walney School with the help of local people.

Listen to the radio feature as Paul O'Neill meets Diane Thomas and Veronica Thomas from Walney School's Special Needs department.
