At the height of its popularity in 1974, BIBA was attracting over a million customers a week. The BIBA look was personified by the superwaif model Twiggy, with her long legs, bright young face and doll-like eyes. Store founder Barbara Hulanicki described her customers as: “Postwar babies who had been deprived of nourishing protein in childhood and grew up into beautiful skinny people: a designer's dream.'
This was the first time fashion had been created for the younger market producing cutting-edge-yet-affordable couture. The eclectic BIBA shops began attracting A-list film and music stars including Cher, Mick Jagger, Yoko Ono, Brigitte Bardot and even Princess Anne.
