Key points about suffixes

A suffix is a group of letters which are added to the end of a word to change its meaning.
Suffixes are:
- added to a verb stemThe part of the verb left after the infinitive ending -en or -n has been removed. to change it into a nounThe name of a thing such as an object, a place or a person. Nouns are often described as naming words.
- added to a noun to change it into an adverbUsed to describe a verb. An adverb like gern (like) shows what the person doing the action thinks of it.
- added to a verbA word that describes an action or a state of being. In German, verbs change their endings to match the subject of the sentence. stem to change it into a male agent noun

How to change a verb into a noun

A noun can be created by adding the suffix -ung to some verb stems. For example, lös-:
Remove the -en/-n at the end of the infinitveThe form of the verb found in the dictionary before the verb is conjugated. In German the infinitive ends in -en or -n and the equivalent in English is (to) to play, to go, to listen. eg lösento solve which leaves the stem lös-

Changing a noun into an adverb
The suffix -s can be added to days and times of day to change them into adverb of frequencyWords that describe how often an action occurs eg every day, weekly.:

Remember:
Adverbs start with a lower case letter and follow the verb. For example:
Ich gehe samstags schwimmen.
I go swimming on Saturdays.

Changing a verb into male agent nouns
Create a male agent nounDescribes a male person who performs an action. by adding -er to a verb stem with the equivalent meaning. For example, besuch-:
Remove the -en/-n at the end of the infinitive eg besuchento visit which leaves the stem besuch-
Add -er to the verb stem and capitalise the noun to create der Besuchervisitor
