In the 1700’s there began
The invention of machines that ran
On coal that burned so very bright
Their lights lit up the starry night.
From dark and dusty cotton mills
To green and rolling Shropshire hills
The revolution had begun.
Never could it be undone.
It’s true to say our lust was real
For everything industrial.
We burned the oil, the gas, the coal
But all their fumes now play a role
In climate change, for now we know
Pollution doesn’t simply go
And vanish, fade or disappear:
It gathers in our atmosphere.
And due to all the gas collecting
It stops light from the sun reflecting
Safely back out into space.
The world is warming up at pace.
Storms and floods are not much fun
But this story is far from done.
The choices that we make today
Can keep the worst effects at bay.
In fact, we know there is a way
To make clean fuel, come what may,
And make it so machines can run
On power made by wind and sun.
Geothermal, hydro too,
None of them make C02.
Creating power without pollution
Is by far the best solution.
You see, we clearly have the means
For making power that’s green and clean!
We know the why, we know the how,
We know we simply must act now.
Together these problems we will face
To make the world a better place.
