Rail passengers' fragrant seats
A rail operator has started using scented headrest covers in an attempt to clean up its train carriages.

The paper covers are impregnated with aromatherapy oils to "create a favourable impression" on First TransPennine Express services.

The company started using the citrus-scented covers to improve the smell of the first class and standard carriages.

TransPennine Express run services in the North West, North East, Yorkshire, Cumbria and Scotland.

Vernon Baker, managing director of TransPennine Express, says the fragrance is "subtle" but smells "fresh and clean".

"It's not too strong. It's relatively long-lasting and we're confident that it will help create a favourable impression," he added.
