A new set of traffic lights at Derby's Five Lamps is being criticised for making congestion worse.

Drivers say there have been long delays in the area since the lights, which cost �333,000, were switched on a month ago.

Engineers from Derby City Council said they will draw up a report which could recommend changes to how the lights work.

The junction, just to the north of the city centre where the Duffield and Kedleston Roads merge, already suffered from serious traffic delays.

But since being switched on, the signals have caused controversy.

Sara Bolton, from the city council, said: "We have to acknowledge the lights have not bedded down as we would have liked.

"We are still monitoring the situation and there are a number of options including part-time traffic lights and switching them off altogether."

The monitoring will continue to the end of the month.
