Three stories of life on the road: a motorbike odyssey, a wagon trek and a historic drive. Tom Houck was just 19 years old when he was asked by Dr Martin Luther King Jr's wife to be a driver for their family. It was 1965 and although Dr King had been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize the year before, the US was deeply divided. Widespread segregation between the white and African-American citizens had just come to an end, but discrimination and racism were still commonplace. He told Emily Webb his story in 2019. In Pakistan it is rare to see a woman zipping around on a motorbike, especially through Taliban controlled areas or in the disputed region of Pakistan-administered Kashmir. But that's just what college student Zenith Irfan did in 2015. Zenith was just ten months old when her father died suddenly of a heart attack at the age of 34. He had always dreamt of motorbiking around Pakistan, and so Zenith lived out her father's dream and challenged stereotypes by touring the country on two-wheels. Back in 2016, she spoke to Anu Anand about her journey. When Vashti Bunyan, a shy art-school dropout, tried to make it as a popstar in 1960s London, people just didn't get her music - or her. Disillusioned, she set off to Scotland on a horse and wagon. Along the way, she wrote songs of her extraordinary journey and in 1970 even recorded an album, Just Another Diamond Day. But when that flopped, she turned her back on music for good, vowing never to set foot in a studio again. Vashti thought her music was lost to history, but 30 years later, she discovered her album had become an underground hit.
