The Wales women 3x3 basketball team lost their first game in the final group game when they were defeated 16-2 by Scotland.

After Wales' victories against India and Nigeria, the Commonwealth Games hosts proved too strong.

Molly Lander scored the two Wales points with Olivia Phillips, Anastasia Blease and Chloe Morgan completing the quartet.

Scotland top Pool B and head to the semi-finals, with Wales now going into a play-off system to try and qualify for the last four.

Weightlifter Catrin Haf Jones finished sixth in the women's 58kg final in Glasgow.

The 27-year-old from Bangor was competing in her third Games and lifted a snatch of 82kg which placed her sixth at the halfway stage.

Jones lifted 106kg in her clean and jerk to complete a total of 188kg.

"It was a bit of a whirlwind," said Jones.

"I am proud of my performance today, especially after Birmingham in 2022 did not go to plan where I did not put a score on the board."

Nigerian Rafiatu Folashade Lawal won the gold medal.

Gymnast Abigail Roper claimed Commonwealth Games bronze in the women's vault in Glasgow.

It was Wales' first women's vault medal since Sonia Lawrence in 1994, while Roper's identical twin sister Emily finished fourth.

Canada's Lia-Monica Fontaine claimed gold, with England's Abigail Martin finishing second.

It was Wales' fifth Commonwealth Games medal in Glasgow after four podium finishes of one silver and three bronze in the pool, with the wait for gold continuing.

"I can't even put into words how crazy it is," said Abigail.

"I went into this final with no expectations, it was my first final at a major tournament and I was just happy to make it.

"To come away with a bronze medal is just insane."

Abigail admitted she felt for her sister, who had a further chance to win a medal in the uneven bars later on Monday.

"I want to be happy for myself but then at the same time like I feel bad for her," Abigail said.

"Fourth is not the best after coming fourth in the team final, we found that hard.

"She's got the bars final now, so she just needs to keep her head focused and hopefully she'll do a really good job."

Olivia Breen is through to Monday night's T37/38 100m finals after finishing second in her heat.

The double Commonwealth gold medal winner finished in 13:05, the third fastest time.

"I'm happy, I'm content," she said.

"I didn't want to go all out for the heat, I'm saving myself for the final and I'm excited for later.

The Team Wales captain celebrated her 30th birthday yesterday.

"I went to The Ivy with my parents, had a good old Shepherds pie," said Breen.

Meanwhile, there was disappointment for Welsh hammer thrower Amber Simpson who failed to qualify for the final.

After two failures, she threw 59.14 on her final attempt which left her 13th in the standings, one shy of a place in tomorrow's medal event.

Owain Harris-Allan and Orlando Holley-Sotomi increased the number of Wales Commonwealth Games boxing quarter-finallists to six with victories in Monday's opening session in Glasgow.

Harris-Allan, 22, celebrated a unanimous victory against Niven Chemben from Mauritius.

The lightweight from Cardiff, who won bronze at the Birmingham Games in 2022, will fight Scotland's Nicholas Devlin on Wednesday.

Light-heavyweight Holley-Sotomi defeated England's Paddy Hewitt in a split decision to set up a quarter-final bout against Refiloe Thai from Lesotho.

Connor Williams, Rosie Eccles, Niamh Brookes and Helen Jones were already in the last eight, while Daniel Pitt is in last-16 action later on Monday

Olympic swimming champion Matt Richards began his Commonwealth Games individual campaign on Monday morning after already winning two relay medals.

Richards was second in his 100m freestyle heat behind England's Gabriel Shepherd to progress to tonight's semi-final.

He was third fastest in qualifying overall and will be joined by fellow Welsh swimmers Harry Milne and Dan Jones, who finished third and fourth respectively in their heat.

Medi Harris and Rebecca Sutton qualified for the women's 50m backstroke semi-finals this evening, a feat that was matched by Amy Crowley in the women's 50m breaststroke.

Wales' fastest man Jeremiah Azu is through to the men's 100m semi-finals after a comfortable start to his Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Azu won his heat in a time of 10:10 which meant he was the sixth fastest in qualifying.

The 17 fastest athletes are through to tomorrow's semi-finals where they will join the top seven ranked sprinters who were given a bye from the heats.

"I got out well, and then I just controlled it from the front," said Azu.

"With these days, it's more the nervous energy and the excitement that you can burn.

"So on the track, you want to be as smart as you can during the rounds. Today was just about qualifying and getting through to tomorrow.

"It's good to get the ball rolling. It's just been waiting, waiting, waiting, but now it's officially begun."
