Wales suffered a third defeat of their campaign in a 65-37 loss against a dominant New Zealand.

The Silver Ferns raced to a 17-7 lead with goal shooter Martina Salmon scoring 15 goals from 15 shots in the opening quarter.

At half-time, Wales trailed 36-15 with goalkeeper Leah Middleton conceding nine penalties in the opening half.

Zoe Matthewman was brought on to make her 25th appearance for the Welsh Feathers for the third quarter alongside wing defence Poppy-Marie Tydeman and the changes had the desired effect.

Willed on by the crowd, Wales were resurgent in third quarter with Georgia Rowe scoring four unanswered goals.

The Kiwi side then showed their class finishing the quarter with a 51-25 scoreline.

Again Wales improved in the fourth quarter, but the two-time gold medallists were too strong.

The game ended on a worrying note as New Zealand goalkeeper Catherine Hall left the court on a wheelchair having appeared to twist her knee.

Wales sit fifth in their group and will face Jamaica in their final pool game on Thursday.

Rosie Eccles, Orlando Holley-Sotomi and Owain Harris-Allan have taken the total of Welsh boxers guaranteed Commonwealth Games medals to four after a busy afternoon schedule of quarter-finals in Glasgow.

They join fellow Welsh boxer Connor Williams in the semi-finals. Losing boxing semi-finalists are given bronze medals.

Holley-Sotomi was the most impressive performer with a devastating first-round knockout of Lesotho's Refiloe Thai in the men's 70kg quarter-final.

Thai was caught with a brutal right-hand punch before Holley-Sotomi followed up with a left hook.

Thai was left pole-axed on the floor and received medical treatment before being helped to his feet. Holley-Sotomi did not initially celebrate as he was concerned for his opponent.

Eccles will collect a third Games medal after stopping Samukelisiwe Sinothile Ncube in the second round of the women's 70kg.

Eccles, who was the Team Wales flagbearer at the opening ceremony, is boxing in her last Games, having won silver in Australia in 2018 and gold in Birmingham four years later.

Harris-Allan, who claimed bronze four years ago, won the battle of the home nations against Scotland's Nicholas Devlin in the men's 60kg.

There were two disappointments as Daniel Pitt lost to Australia's Paul Trainor in the men's 80kg.

Niamh Brookes has also missed out on a medal after being defeated by Canada's Amber-Jane Wall in the women's 51kg quarter-final.

Brookes, 24, forced two standing counts to dominate the opening round but then faded.

Wall bounced back to force one count in the second and two in the third to claim victory.

Welsh duo Funmi Oduwaiye and Bree Cronin won silver and bronze in the women's F42-44/F61-64 discus final in Glasgow.

Oduwaiye, 23, took the lead with an opening throw of 38.52 metres, a Commonwealth Games record for the F44 category.

Cronin lay in second after her opening throw of 34.88m, before improving to a season's best of 36.00m.

However, the gold was won by defending champion Nigeria's Goodness Nwachuku, who threw a world record for the F42 category with a throw of 39.66m with her final throw.

F42 and F44 scores in World Para Athletics multi-class events are calculated using the Raza Points System, a mathematical formula based on a Gompertz function that converts an athlete's physical distance or height (in metres) into a standardised point score.

Nwachuku's disability level saw her distance have a greater point score than that of Oduwaiye.

The pair, who train together in Cardiff under coach Josh Clark, finished fourth and fifth at the World Para Athletics Championships in India in 2025.

Oduwaiye adds to the bronze she won in F44 shot put at the World Para Athletics Championships in 2025.

Amy Williams continued her positive start in the women's singles with a 2-0 victory over South African Bridget Herselman.

She delivered an assured performance against a difficult opponent winning 6-3, 6-3.

Williams sits top of her group and next faces Zambia's Mildred Mkandawire on Thursday night.

In the men's pairs Daniel Salmon and Ross Owen suffered their first loss of the campaign in a tight match against Maltese duo Troy Lorimer and Shaun Parnis.

Wales won the opening set 8-3, thanks in large part to scoring five shots in the first end.

But Malta clinched a cagey second-set 4-2, forcing and then winning the decisive one-end tie-break.

Salmon and Owen next play Guernsey at 11:20 BST on Thursday.
