    Seven Storeys High

Luton's Seven Storeys High only formed this summer (2004) but have already received a positive reaction from the music press.

Q: How would you describe your style of music?

A: Alternative/Indie. We would describe our music as atmospheric and melodic.

Q: What would you say are your musical influences?

A: Our musical influences are Elbow, Doves, Radiohead, Jeff Buckley to name just a few.

Q: How did the band form?

A: We never so much met but grew up together, we’ve known each other since school. Stuart (Vocals), Luke (Guitars) and Eddie (bass) were in a band before which ended a couple of years ago as the drummer had to move away. Then at the beginning of this year Stuart found Howard our new drummer through a friend of his. Our friend Ben who plays guitar was also interested in starting a band and it all kicked off from there. We began writing our own songs and named ourselves 7 Storeys High. We went to a recording studio in the summer and made a demo. Our demo then got reviewed in Total Music Magazine, and the review was good. Since then we have been playing at local music venues.

Q: What bands had you all been in previously?

A: Stuart, Luke and Eddie were in a band called Insite.

Q: What’s your favourite song on your current album and why?

A: Stuart – End of a day Luke – End of a day Howard – End of a Day: It's one of those songs were everything is in the right place, sometimes you hear a song and you think that something’s missing, When we first played it we knew then it was one that we wanted to record on our demo. Eddie – Eyes Shut (Please) Ben – Eyes Shut (Please): The string section at the end makes it their favourite. We never used to play it with the strings. We added the strings in the studio and it lifted the whole song.

Q: What type of gig do you most like to play and why?

A: We like playing at Music Venues as all the sound is generally mixed by their engineers but mainly because you get the right type of people there, people who go to these venues go there to listen to music which is great.

Q: What’s your most memorable gig and why?

A: For our first gig together, we played at TheWell Music Venue. We were all very nervous and it was the first time we had played our own material in front of anyone. But it went really well.

Q: What’s your fan base like?

A: We hope to build a fan base but at the moment it's work in progress as we have only played 4-5 gigs since this summer when we started. I hope we appeal to all types of people. If your music is strong enough lots of different people will like it.

Q: What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever done / sent to you?

A: Luckily we haven’t had any experiences like that yet.

Q: Name one unusual fact about each of you.

A: I'd say that we are all quite normal, the only unusual thing is that Stuart can stick his tongue up his nose.

Q: If you could record a collaboration with ANYONE - who would it be and why?

A: If we could record with anyone I think we would like to record with Thome Yorke from Radiohead. He has one of those voices that bring the hairs on the back of your neck up.

    Q: What’s the band’s ultimate ambition?

A: I think our ambition at the moment on a smaller scale is to get back in the studio and record more tracks, maybe even an album. On a larger scale we would all love to be doing this for a living.

I saw them in Luton, not really a lot happening, seen/heard it all before, nothing new or cutting edge but fair play for trying, most bands don't even get out and do it live.
