Will Barber is a student at West Suffolk College (studying for a BTEC National Diploma in Photography, CMPA Department). He reviews ‘Scott Field - The Drummatic Experience’, which visited the college on the 24th of September 2004. Will also took the photos of Scott that are displayed on this page. Scott Field the Drummatic Experience Background:
Scott has been a keen drummer from the age of 24. As we watched him assemble his £5000 drum kit, his P.R. Explained that Scott’s ambition is to show art using his musical talent. | | Scott Field - The Drummatic Experience |
This is to have music at his finger tips and to respond in a visual and sound related way, which has not been done before. He is also very interested in the idea of making art without a paint brush and turning music into ‘art’. What happened today:
Today we saw Scott perform art here at West Suffolk College in a new and creative way. He played the drums, and as he did paint splashed out of his drum sticks and created a mass of colour. Both on himself, the drum kit and the white background. | | Scott Field - The Drummatic Experience |
The whole event was filmed and photographed by the local press and television and ourselves – photography students at W. Suffolk College. What we thought of it:
As an individual I enjoyed Scott’s artistic view and his creative ideas. It was very energetic and fairly exciting. We had seen nothing quite like it before. However, I feel the use of more bold and energetic colours and a longer show would have been better. Many of the group agreed the colours were limited as was his appearance. | | Scott Field - The Drummatic Experience |
But overall it was an excellent idea and we hope he continues to progress on his work.
