Izaak Walton remembered | |
| | | Opening of Izaak Walton Cottage Museum, 1924 Born in Stafford in 1593, Izaak Walton, author of The Compleat Angler, spent part of his life at this cottage at Halfhead Farm, Shallowford, between Stafford and Eccleshall. This photograph shows the opening of the House as a museum to Izaak Walton and angling. In 1990 Stafford Borough Council, who had become trustees of the cottage in 1956, restored it as a typical seventeenth century cottage. Now known as Izaak Walton's Cottage, visitor are still welcome throughout the summer months.
Izaak Walton's Compleat Angler was first published in 1653 and is still in print, 350 years on.
