Children In Need 2009 - events

All around Staffordshire and Cheshire, as part of the 2009 BBC Children in Need appeal, folk were out doing fun things to raise money for a good cause. Check on this page to see some of the events...

Children In Need 2009 took place on Friday, 20 November. It's always a great excuse to get up to lots of silliness and raise money for a good cause!

Events

Jo Jingles nursery classes across Cheshire, from 14th – 20th Nov, will have a Singalong Party in their classes at Hartford, Nantwich, Mynydd Isa, Kelsall, Frodsham, Wrexham, Tarporley, Knutsford, Hawarden, Northwich, Chester, Winsford, Mold, Macclesfield, Congelton, Middlewich, Holmes Chapel, Sandbach, Hough & Helsby...

On Friday 20th November, there is the '3 Bald Amigos' event - a sponsored head shave taking place in The Rigger on Marsh Parade in Newcastle Under Lyme with my self, Ben Wilshaw, and two other long haired friends. The target for the evening is £1,000 and we are on course to hit it judging by the amount of support so far.
The events kick off from about 10:30pm. We have a trained cut throat barber coming in so there will be a bit of a show; it is free to enter but please make a donation in the bucket and if you feel so inclined a £10 sponsor gets you a go at cutting your own lock of hair! And if you can't make it to the evening but wish to donate some cash to this worthy cause we have a secure online payment facility if you wish to make a donation at www.justgiving.com/3baldamigos
So if you're feeling slightly sado masochistic and fancy a laugh at someone else's expense please come along to the Rigger !

Friday, 20th November: Charity Line Dance Social in aid of Children in Need to be held from 7.30-10.30pm at Sandbach Cricket Club, Hind Heath Lane, Sandbach. Tickets £3.50 available behind the bar at the club or telephone 761779. Alternatively £4.00 on the door on the night.

Friday, 20th November: Children at Beresford Memorial First School in Leek, are holding a fancy dress day and a 'Bring a Bear' to school day to raise money for Children in Need.

At King Edward VI High School, Stafford, there are cake sales and the chance to wear something blue (for Anti-Bullying Week) to raise money for Children in Need

Four Prison Officers at HMYOI Swinfen Hall in Lichfield are rowing a Marathon (26 Miles), on rowing machines, in the prison gatehouse on Friday 20th starting at 0700. They are being sponsored by staff and many of the 600 prisoners. Should take them around 3 hours!!

On Friday, 20th November, at Waterhouses Primary School, we are all dressing up as Superheroes, which links with the Foundation stage who are thinking about the theme of Superheroes. All the school (although a small rural school ) are bringing in coins to cover Pudsey bear; 1 of the classes has made chocolate Pudsey bear lollies to sell; we are printing Pudsey shapes into toast and adding strawberry jam for his nose !!; and basically just raising money for Children in need by having a fun filled day.

Friday, 20th November: Singathon in aid of CIN with local entertainer Tony Mulcahy at the The Sump, Winshill, Burton - starts at 8.30pm

Beaver Sleep Over - Stay Awake Challenge. The Beavers from Red Street & St Wulstan's Scout Groups are having a sponsored stay awake sleep over on Friday 20th November and watching some of the television Children in Need programme together with an indoor camp fire! Making their own Pudsey eye patch and Pudsey Biscuits using the cutters from ASDA. They are going to have a busy, fun night.

Friday 13th November: Sponsored 'Music-a-Thon' at St. Dominic's Priory School, Stone. Pupils from 3 to 18, staff and parents will be joining together raising funds for Children in Need by holding a non stop sponsored music fest from 9am to 3:30pm in Priory Hall - singing, dancing, solo's, choir, instrumental bands, classical to POP music. Please drop in at any time to show your support and stay as long as you want, drinks and refreshments will be on sale with all profits going to Children in Need. Friday Nov 20th - Stoke Workshops Ltd - formerly Stoke On Trent Workshops For the Blind & Disabled - is holding an event for Children in Need, involving a children's fair, market, bouncy castle, lots of carnival attractions such as cross bows, swing boats, head and arm stocks, plate smashing, and hot food and drink! We also have exhibitions from top darts players and a darts tournament.
We open at 12pm, with the darts tournament starting at 5pm. Admission is free, but tournament entry is £10. Our website is www.stokeworkshops.com

On Friday 20 November, staff and students at Newcastle College will be swapping their everydayclothes and donning fancy dress outfits inspired by fashions from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and now... in return for a donation of £1. In addition to the fancy dress theme, a ‘through the ages’ music quiz has been organised with a £1 entry fee and a prize of a £25 VUE cinema voucher. All proceeds will go to Children in Need.
The College’s childcare students will be hosting a sponsored bounce where staff and students will compete for the highest number of bounces on a trampoline in one minute and Public Services students will be dressing up as a member of the public services for the day.
Meanwhile staff and students from the Skills for Life department have organised a ‘How Many Sweets are in the Jar’ competition and a henna tattoo stall where students can receive temporary tattoos in return for a donation.

Erica Hackett raised £508 doing dance classes in Aqua, Salsa and Yoga to... naturists. It was raised during the British Naturists' Weekend at Alton Towers.

Friday Nov 20th - Harpfield Primary School is holding a European Market to raise money for Children in Need, Pudsey and friends.

In order to raise funds through sponsorship, a group of 6 employees from a category B prison in Staffordshire (HMP Dovegate), have agreed to cycle around the perimeter of the prison grounds dressed as superheroes, swim across the outdoor lake, and run back to the start point at the main entrance (!) - a distance of approx 5 km in total. Prisoner and staff donations are expected to raise in excess of £600.
The Director has also agreed to swap jobs with the staff member who can correctly guess the time it will take to complete the event!

At 4pm on Friday 20th November Martin Hill is having his head shaved for CiN. He writes: "Although this is taking place at my home I have £300 pledged so far and will be putting pictures on facebook for all to see. I have been told this is the coldest time of year for baldies but I wouldn't know because, until Friday, I have always sported a full head of hair!"

Friday, 20th November: South Cheshire College in Crewe has fundraising events planned for the day which include cake stalls and a karaoke. The College is also encouraging people to recycle their unused or unwanted mobile phones which could be worth over £100.

On sat 21st nov, we are holding a fundraising event at stoke market between 11am and 1pm. There will be raffle prizes and some fun games but most of all andrea will be having beans thrown at her for a £1 a throw!!

Saturday 21st Nov - Stephen Parsons will be collecting for CIN (dressed as a clown) outside B&M in Hanley from 9 - 5

Sunday 22nd Nov: Tours of BBC Radio Stoke have been organised by the staff in return for donations to the CiN fund. (STOP PRESS - all tickets for his event have now been allocated, and no tickets are left)

Friday, 27th November at 11am – a delicious cake designed to look like Pudsey bear’s cute new friend ‘Blush the bear’ will come under the hammer at Penkridge auction house Cuttlestones’ Fine Art sale. It is no ordinary cake - Cuttlestones has joined forces with Codsall-based cake decorating artist Heather Sweet to create a cake to remember.
