Hall faced 453 balls in his innings |
South Africa all-rounder Andrew Hall warned India they should be under no illusions that the tourists are fully focused on a positive result in Kanpur.
He said: "Nobody plays for a draw and we are here to win," after hitting a marathon 163 in a score of 459-7.
"It was tough scoring runs but our preparation for the pitches here helped us a lot. Things worked our way and I got a lot of support from other guys."
Hall put on 144 for the sixth wicket with debutant Zander de Bruyn.
"Batting with de Bruyn was a pleasure because we have played a lot of cricket together since our school days," added Hall.
"Having him in the middle with me was very, very special as he is a tough guy."
Hall was used as a makeshift opener in Kanpur as South Africa sought to compensate the absence of Herschelle Gibbs.
Of his 454-ball innings, Hall said: "In the past I might have been guilty of throwing it away a couple of times when I got into positions like this.
"It was quite difficult for me in the beginning. I am an aggressive strokeplayer, but the role I have been given in the national side right now is to occupy the crease and bat time."
Hall, who bowls medium-pace, added: "As an all-rounder my job is only half done."
