Reading need to tidy up results on the road - Roberts

Reading full-back Haydon Roberts says the Royals believe they can maintain their good start to the season and challenge for promotion, once they can transfer their impressive home form to matches on the road.

Saturday's 2-0 home win over Notts County was a third successive home league victory, and leaves them eighth in League One with 10 points, one point adrift of the top six.

Reading have won three of their four home games at the Select Car Leasing Stadium but are yet to be victorious on the road, albeit from only two away matches, with a chance to change that record at Wycombe on Saturday (15:00 BST).

"At home we look really strong," Roberts told BBC Radio Berkshire. "Away, we just need to tidy a few things up. We have a chance, whether that's to do what we set out to do - to get promoted.

"We'll keep building, but I think we look really strong. We can't get carried away just because we beat Notts County 2-0 at home.

"We have to then do it away at Wycombe. It's just consistency."

The Royals were in play-off contention last season before failing to win any of their last six matches, falling to four defeats, and ending up 12th.

Zimbabwe midfielder Andy Rinomhota is fully fit this campaign, and has been key to their strong start, while midfielder George Earthy is also impressing since his summer move from West Ham.

The club also has strong attacking options now, with Jack Marriott having been joined by new signings Jacob Brown from Luton Town and Jamie Reid, who scored 57 goals in 211 games for Stevenage.

"All three of those strikers would start at other clubs in this division," added Roberts. "And we're grateful to have all three of them.

"They all very different, so we're very lucky to have them."

Reading have already scored 14 goals in League One, the second joint-highest total so far behind Stockport County who have netted 16 times.

Roberts, 24, arrived in January from Championship Bristol City where he made 73 appearances over three years.

He picked up a niggle at the start of this campaign, but now feels ready for a run in the side.

"I'm feeling great in terms of my previous niggle," he said. "Probably not physically at my best yet. But for this manager [Leam Richardson] and this squad I'd give anything.

"I'm so grateful, he gave me this opportunity that I've been dying for. To be available, I'd put my body on the line for him."
