Grimsby sign South Shields forward Finch

Sonny Finch played for South Shields after leaving Middlesbrough

Grimsby Town have signed forward Sonny Finch for an undisclosed fee from National League North side South Shields.

The 21-year-old has moved to the Mariners on a three-year contract.

Finch played once for Middlesbrough after coming through their academy and had a loan spell at MK Dons in the 2024-25 season.

He joined South Shields in January, initially on loan, and made the move permanent in March.

He scored eight goals in 26 league games at that level and he now jumps back up to League Two.

"Sonny is a player we've been aware of and watched closely," Grimsby head coach David Artell told the club website.

"He's got a really good profile for us and, importantly, he still has plenty of room to develop."
