'Professional' Torquay ease to 6-1 FA Cup victory

Torquay United manager Jimmy Ball praised the "professional" way in which his side beat AFC Stoneham 6-1 in the FA Cup.

The Gulls were always in control of their second qualifying round tie against a side that plays two divisions below them in Isthmian League South Central.

Callum Morton gave the Gulls a sixth-minute lead before Jacob Beaumont-Clark's long-range effort made it 2-0 after 36 minutes.

Stoneham struck back seconds later through Tom Annetts, but Sonny-Blu Lo-Everton scored twice late in the first half as Torquay went into the break 4-1 up.

The midfielder fired in from the edge of the box after 43 minutes before finishing well from a stoppage-time corner.

Lo-Everton completed his hat-trick midway through the second half before Cody Cooke rounded off the scoring in stoppage time.

"Out attitude was good, mentality was good throughout, that's all I wanted really," Ball told BBC Radio Devon.

"I thought that if we did that and did it properly and acted in a professional, humble manner, we would be fine.

"We just made the players aware that of our standards, regardless of who we're playing, when we're playing, what competition we're playing in, we need to come off the pitch proud of ourselves and proud of our output and proud of our performance.

"Attacking-wise we looked good and like I said at the beginning of season, it's hard to beat a team that sits in there very deep and has lots of bodies in there that you've got to navigate, but we did it and we did it quite well today."
