Halifax Town have appointed Buxton manager John McGrath as their first-team boss following the departure of Adam Lakeland.

Lakeland recently joined Morecambe on a three-year contract following their relegation from the National League.

Under Lakeland, Halifax finished eighth, one place outside the play-offs, in the National League.

Former Burton Albion midfielder McGrath, 46, joins having led Buxton to consecutive play-off finishes in the National League North as well as the FA Cup second round.

"I'd like to thank everyone connected with Buxton FC for their incredible support during my time at the club - it has been a privilege to manage this football club and work with such a fantastic group of players, staff, volunteers, and supporters," McGrath said., external

"This was not an easy decision, but I feel the time is right to take on a new challenge. I leave with many great memories and will always look back fondly and proudly on my time at the Silverlands."
