Truro boss Askey praises third clean sheet in a row

Truro City boss John Askey praised his side's clean sheet record as they beat Tonbridge Angels 2-0 in National League South.

The Tinners had to be patient for their opening goal, but it eventually came in the 53rd minute through Tyler Harvey, who slipped the ball beneath Tonbridge keeper Nathan Harness.

Harvey was the man of the moment once again when in the 74th minute he collected the ball in the box and squeezed his shot home.

The result put Truro fourth in the league having conceded no goals in their opening three matches.

Askey said he needed to remind the players at half-time not to get frustrated, with the match goalless.

"We just needed to tweak one or two things and be better in wider areas, as well as holding the ball up better," he told BBC Radio Cornwall.

"I think you saw the fitness levels of the players compared with the opposition, and it showed, other than when we went two-nil up and they started to get a bit of momentum."

Truro have two wins and a draw in the league so far this season, and Askey was confident his side could go on to "achieve something" if they keep it up.

"If you're not conceding that gives you a great base to work from," he said.

"The players have done well, and it's not even only the defenders, because the lads in front of them work really hard.

"We know it won't happen every week but the longer it does then the more chance we've got of achieving something."

Truro host league leaders Dagenham and Redbridge on Saturday.
