Milton Keynes Dons have recalled midfielder Keon Lewis-Burgess from his loan at Gateshead because of "the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the National League club".

The 19-year-old joined Gateshead on loan in August with the deal set to run until January but the League One club have cut short the arrangement.

The Heed failed to pay their players and staff their September wages and sacked manager Lee Cattermole on Sunday after a run of only one win from their opening 12 games which has left them bottom of the National League table.

MK Dons said Gateshead had requested that Lewis-Burgess returned to them.

Lewis-Burgess made 11 league appearances for Gateshead and has featured six times for MK in the EFL Trophy, making his debut at the age of 17.
