Lincoln have offered Michael Skubla an improved contract as they attempt to stave off interest in their promotion-winning boss from Bristol City.

BBC Radio Lincolnshire have reported the Imps' major shareholder Ron Fowler has agreed to new terms being drawn up after the Robins made an approach that would activate an existing release clause of more than £1m for the 43-year-old.

Skubala, along with Portsmouth boss John Mousinho and Bournemouth assistant Tommy Elphick, have been strongly linked with the job at Ashton Gate, external to replace former England Roy Hodgson, who saw out the 2025-26 Championship season on a short-term contract.

While Skubala is yet to work at Championship level, he will be among the most sought after bosses outside the Premier League in the English game.

The former Leeds United Under-21 coach, who had a brief spell as a caretaker boss at Premier League level at Elland Road, guided the Imps to promotion as League One title winners.

They topped the table with 103 points, boasted the meanest defence and second-most prolific attack in the third tier as they secured their place in the Championship for the first time since 1961.

Former England futsal head coach Skubala, who studied psychology and sport science and has authored a number of books on coaching, achieved it all on one of the smallest budgets in League One.
