Millwall's Metcalfe loving the hunger of the Lions

Millwall midfielder Jenson Metcalfe is enjoying life at The Den following his summer move from League One Bradford City.

The 22-year-old made the step up to the Championship after helping the Bantams reach the 2025-2026 play-off semi-finals.

Metcalfe has started all five league games this season and looks set to continue in the heart of the Lions midfield on Saturday against Blackburn (15:00 BST).

He told BBC Radio London: "Millwall is like a hunger club, a club which is like a fight - every single time you put the shirt on you want to win 110%.

"That suits my outlook as a player. I just want to win on every occasion. The basics of football is hard work. If your ability's not all there, as long as you can give 110%, I don't think anyone can ask any more of you."

Millwall missed out on automatic promotion to the Premier League on the final day of last season, before losing to Hull City in the play-offs.

"When I was at Bradford, we also lost out on the play-offs in the same way. I know how it feels. It hurts at the time, and it still hurts now," he added.

"You've just got to take it with a pinch of salt and use the motivation to move forward and take it from there."

"I'm sure every club has the same project. You want to play in the highest division. Now that the play-offs have opened up an extra two places, I'm sure everyone will be looking at the top end of the table."

Metcalfe enjoyed the 2024-2025 season in League Two with Chesterfield, then last season in League One with Bradford, and is now in the second tier in south London.

"I'm trying to showcase myself, but I'm also trying to keep control of that. I don't want to do things in my game that I think I can do well just to prove myself to the lads," he said.

"I want to do what suits what the Millwall team want from me moving forward. I'll do everything to stay in the role they want me to do."

Metcalfe was sent off in last Saturday's 4-0 home league win over Bolton Wanderers following a melee between the two teams, but the card was later rescinded - much to his relief.

"Sunday was my birthday and it ruined it. I kept looking back over [the incident] it numerous times trying to see where the violent conduct came into it," he said.
