Murphy completes move to Brighton from Newcastle

Republic of Ireland international Emily Murphy has joined Women’s Super League club Brighton.

The 23-year-old was Newcastle’s top-scorer in the second division last season with six goals and four assists in 15 starts and had a year remaining on her contract.

Newcastle say they have received an undisclosed club record fee for Murphy, who made 37 appearances in all competitions during her 18 months there.

Murphy has previous WSL experience from her time at Birmingham City and Chelsea and had spells playing in the United States.

"Emily has shown that she has both a good eye for goal and the ability to provide for her teammates," said Brighton boss Dario Vidosic.

"She had a taste of WSL football with Chelsea before so she knows the standards that we will be demanding from her.

"Emily also adds good quality to an area we needed to strengthen so I am excited to work with her."

The forward has become a regular for the Republic of Ireland since her debut in 2024, starting five of their six Women's World Cup qualifying matches this year.

Brighton have already made six signings this summer as they look to build on last season's success where they reached the Women's FA Cup final.

Newcastle had already confirmed a replacement for Murphy with the signing of Scotland international Kathleen McGovern.

The 24-year-old joined from Scottish side Hibernian where she netted 51 goals in 65 appearances.
