Cox adds a single off the final ball of the over and runs straight into Jamie Overton, almost falling over, but gets home safely to move to 48.

Cox definitely picked that spot, it wasn't just a whack at a full toss - very nicely played.
Jordan Cox is moving along nicely, hitting Eshan Malinga for two fours in this over.
He plays wide of long-on and then times a shot well through the covers, beating the fielder on the rope.

Having endured that, Wellalage does end the over with a dot ball.

It's not to his benefit though, as the spinner sees his delivery beat Jordan Cox and Kusal Mendis and race away past the fielder at third for four byes.
England have scored 143-2 in the second half of PP2 (overs 26-40) at 9.53 runs per over.
The last time they scored as many runs in this phase was against Bangladesh in Dharamsala in the 2023 World Cup (149-2).

Sorry, but that is so, so poor. England had 12 overs to bat, and Banton had just hit a couple of boundaries. Take the single. Now Jacks has to start again, and the run rate will stall. Hard surface to start on top!

I have seen Tom Banton do this in a Somerset shirt for years and only now have England realised he can open the batting. With Ben Duckett currently struggling, the World Cup places are up for grabs when you include Jacob Bethell and Jamie Smith.

What a career milestone for Tom Banton, he's coming into that phase where you can tell he knows his game now, really had to knuckle down.
What a brilliant innings, one he'll remember for a long time.

Tom Banton hits Sachindu Colombage for consecutive fours, but the spinner has his revenge from the last ball of the over.
The England opener gets balls over the ropes at mid-wicket and in the covers but can't make it three in a row, lifting the ball to Eshan Malinga at long-on.
An excellent innings comes to an end.
