One further British update to bring you - Charlotte Payne has progressed in the women's hammer qualification and will compete in Wednesday's final.

The 24-year-old went through as the 10th of 12 athletes with a mark of 68.89m, while Katrine Koch Jacobsen of Denmark lead the field with 72.62.

She carried the mantle of women's British sprinting for so many years. It is hard to do against the best in the world. She was the sole mantle carrier for Team GB.

You can only do that for so long befor your body gets old and tired. That is what happens.

She is still so hungry and passionate. Happy Dina is a fast Dina.

This is an athlete that has been going at the highest level since 2013. Dina Asher-Smith was a kit carrier in 2012. She has been a talent and to be able to do it year in year out, in one of the most intense events that demands so much.

Dina wears her heart on her sleeve. You can tell whether she is happy or not so happy Dina. In London at the Diamond League, we saw happy Dina.

To be the best in Britain you have to be one of the best in the world.

History is on the line for Dina Asher-Smith in Birmingham.

A decade on from capturing her first gold at these championships, the 30-year-old could have as many as four opportunities to equal Croatia's discus thrower Sandra Elkasevic's record tally of seven titles this week.

The former world 200m champion won her second European 100m title in Rome two years ago, but that remains her only individual international title since her crowning moment on the global stage seven years ago.

Discussing her ambitions before the championships, Amy Hunt quoted High School Musical character Sharpay Evans, who sings a song titled "I Want It All" in the film.

The 24-year-old's breakthrough medal on the global stage in Tokyo last year was a long time coming, but the early years of her senior career were disrupted by injury.

That including rupturing her quadriceps in 2022 as she sought to balance the demands of training with studying an English Literature degree at Cambridge University.

But Hunt has made significant progress in recent seasons and, naturally, the silverware is beginning to follow.

She has her eyes on four golds at these championships, with the 200m and both the women's and mixed 4x100m relays to follow later in the week.

No time to catch your breath, it's time for the women's 100m final.

The Netherlands athlete fades as the third leg comes to a close. Toby Harries comes through in second from Norway, closing in on the lead.

Ben Jefferies leads Great Britain out in the final of the mixed 4x400m relay. He's up against three-time 400m world champion Karsten Warholm for Norway, who runs a very strong leg.

Charlotte Henrich reaches the second changeover in second behind the Netherlands, who lead despite not having Femke Bol in their line-up.

It's been, well, a mixed bag for Great Britain in the mixed 4x400m relay in recent years.

A team of Samuel Reardon, Laviai Nielsen, Alex Haydock-Wilson and Amber Anning picked up bronze at the Paris Olympics with a national record time.

The Great Britain line-up qualified for the final second-fastest at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, but the team of Lewis Davey, Emily Newnham, Toby Harries and Nicole Yeargin placed sixth there.

They were back on form at the World Relays in Botswana in May, taking bronze with a team of Haydock-Wilson, Nielsen, Jake Minshull and Yemi Mary John.

And it's Ben Jefferies, Charlotte Henrich, Harries and John who go tonight in lane five.

Jakob Ingebrigtsen 5,000m winner, speaking to BBC Sport: "With 600m to go, I knew I was going to win. I was just hoping and hoping that I was not going to get too tired.

"I worked on my breathing and worked on trying to run smoothly. But you never know, in a race like this I always feel the people around me are very strong, but luckily for me, they're also working hard and struggling eventually.

"It was a good race. It was a race I was hoping for. A lot of people that I was expecting to show up really showed up and gave it a good fight. A good fight towards the end, so a great experience. Being healthy again, being back racing feeling so good, and so much like myself, is something that I have really worked towards the last year or so.

"So, of course, I am really happy. Of course, I doubted myself every day and every minute leading up to the last lap, but I am always hoping. You can always do as much as you can, always try your best and always prepare as good as you think you can.

"The last couple of weeks I have been able to do exactly that. Just on the limit of what my body can handle. In terms of training pretty hard of being as fit as I needed to be. Everything in the last few weeks has been pretty smooth, but before that not so much."

Ah, it's not to be for Scott Lincoln.

It's a great performance, but it's fourth again - and that will hurt.

Sweden's Wictor Petersson improves to 20.97m with his final throw, so there's every chance he would have moved back above Lincoln had he needed to.
